Holton C-Melody Sax for restoration - 1914 vintage

This is a rare vintage C Melody Saxophone, dated from around 1914 according to serial number lists, manufactured in the USA by Holton . The sax is being sold complete,  as shown, but as a restoration project - it will require a few pads and pieces of cork to get it into working order. Keys all move freely, and silver plate will easily clean up to a fine finish. Pad are mostly sound, and light tan coloured - so this sax will almost certainly have been overhauled in it's lifetime.

On the back it reads: C   21243  (and)  LP  (low pitch)    The instrument is (modern standard) Low Pitch, A=440, and will be in tune with all modern instruments.  The finish is bright silver plate, any 'gold' colour showing in the photos is normal silver tarnish, easily polished off.

Overall the standard of the finish will be excellent, once cleaned.  As with any 80 year old instrument, it has collected a few minor dings, scratches and plating wear along the way, plus a couple of shallow thumb-size dents at the base of the bow - not really visible from the viewing or playing angle, and obviously won't affect playability.    A lot of C-Melody saxes like this one were used in the 20's and 30's by their owners, then stored away for various reasons including WWII, only now to be re-discovered by later generations - so the sax itself is  usually in reasonable condition, just some pads and corks will have deteriorated whilst unused, and need replacing.
